Course Description:

This First Aid course will teach students how to recognize and provide first aid to people with various environmental and medical emergencies.

Objectives:

At the end of this course the learners will be able to...

• Recognize the necessity of locating and properly maintaining the first aid kit.

Describe the steps for assessing an incident and determining a persons need for first aid.

• Discuss the importance of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while providing first aid.

• Recognize when to call 911.

• Identify various medical emergencies and describe appropriate interventions that should be provided.

• Identify various environmental emergencies and describe appropriate interventions that should be provided.

High school diploma or GED and/or reading at the 10th grade level.

  3. Review the procedures for CPR for adult patients
  4. Review the procedures for CPR for pediatric patients
  5. Review the procedures for CPR for infants

  7. Discuss AED use for pediatric patients
  8. Discuss AED use for infants
  9. Discuss rescue breathing for adult patients
  10. Discuss rescue breathing for pediatric patients
  11. Discuss rescue breathing for infants
  12. Discuss removal of an airway obstruction in adults
  13. Discuss removal of an airway obstruction in pediatric patients
  14. Discuss removal of an airway obstruction in infants

This course will give the general public information on how to help someone who is injured until help arrives.

At the end of this course the learners will be able to...

  • Communicate with 9-1-1 operators effectively.
  • Act to protect the injured from further harm.
  • Position the injured.
  • Stop life-threatening bleeding.
  • Provide emotional support.

Prerequisites:

High school diploma or GED and/or reading at the 10th grade level.
